A Disneyland-like Arch Project over the city and SR 62 is ludicrous.
Twentynine Palms, CA – Just when there is a calm at city hall, Councilman Corbin comes up with a kooky project and a grandiose scheme to erect and construct a heavenly Arch across the highway to welcoming visitors to the city.
He wants the grand arch placed on the east side of Donnell Hill. The east side is where Corbin’s proposed at the last council meeting paving and improving the area where the sculpture 29P! is situated, including providing WiFi access.
He pitched his grandiose Arch Project during Tuesday’s City Council under Agenda item: FUTURE COUNCIL INITIATED ITEMS
While Corbin want to construct a massive manmade arch across 62 on the east side of Donnell Hill, Klink appears to be hopped-up about the special project.
While these gents want to spend the influx of money from the state as quickly and foolishly as possible — without putting some of it aside into the reserves — Harris and Heiser are wanting to take a look at the a big priority issue like the bond for future council priorities.
Klink and Corbin ought to search for better priorities. Eye candy projects do very little to improve the local infrastructure.
Credit is given to Councilman Mintz for voicing concerns about the lavish Arch Project.
One unidentified member in the audience is recorded as telling the council it would ruin the view and that she doesn’t want the Arch.
Klink and Corbin were elected to do better. More thought need be given to residents, homeowners and taxpayers that actually live here most all of the time. Error on the side of austerity and common sense, as opposed to foisting a costly, dangerous and kooky ersatz Arch-way hanging over the the desert skies of 29 high above the highway.
They can do better with taxpayer resources.
