On Saturday, July 27, 2013 at about 5:26 p.m. officers from the Palm Desert Police Department responded to 44800 block of Las Palmas Ave in reference to a call of a child drowning.

A male adult, who was supervising three children ranging in age from two to six years old was in the pool area with them. The male adult was playing with the two oldest children in the water, but the two-year-old was sitting outside of the pool water on the concrete edge. The two-year-old fell into the pool water and no one noticed. Several minutes later, neighbors saw the two-year-old child unresponsive in the pool water. The neighbors gained entry into the pool area and rendered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the child was revived. The two-year-old child was taken to a local hospital for observation.

The male adult, Pedro Rangel, age 25 from Palm Desert, was intoxicated during this incident. As a result of Pedro Rangel’s intoxicated state he failed to notice that the two-year-old child fell into the pool. Pedro Rangel was arrested for child endangerment and booked into county jail in the city of Indio.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Palm Desert Police Department at 760-836-1600 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 760-341-STOP (7867)
