Yucca Valley, Ca.,-Last evening, there were over 96 citizens attending the Yucca Valley Town Council meeting, not counting Council members and Staff. Friends, family, supporters and dignitaries were present for the newly elected Robert “Bob” Leone to take his place on the dais. Twentynine Palms Councilwoman Cora Heiser graced us with her presence and several 1st time voters were present. The room was filled with well wishers of all ages and walks of life.
For a brief moment, everyone was enjoying this historic time for Yucca Valley and time stood still. I had the privilege to thank Marge Crouter for her support and coming to this meeting. I thanked her for everything she did for our Town. Crouter was instrumental in the town incorporation and was a member of the first Town Council. The ballot measure to incorporate passed by only 11 votes.
Our Town Clerk, Jamie Anderson, was gracious to provide an extra utility table for two large homemade cakes and homemade cookies. The room was filled with festive helium balloons that said “Congratulations” and “Welcome back!” A break in the meeting was called by Mayor Merl Abel after Leone was sworn in by Donna Munoz, field representative for 3rd District Supervisor James Ramos. Everyone rushed over to congratulate Leone and to enjoy the homemade goodies.
Councilman Robert “Bob” Leone took his place on the dais and his experience was evident as he eased into this position, once again. Well versed with the agenda, he asked to be on the ad-hoc committee with Councilman Dawn Rowe for the Hi-Desert Water District sewer financing and was appointed by a unanimous vote. Leone asked for an agenda item to look at additional revenue sources to increase the bed tax to pay for some of the programs that contribute to our quality of life. The town manager informed the council that James Ramos offered $10,000.00 from his discretionary account as a matching donation to bring back the summer concerts in the park. This good news was welcomed by everyone and Councilman Robert Lombardo offered to chip in the first $500.00.
At the end of the meeting, Leone thanked everyone for their attendance and all the Council members welcomed him aboard offering their congratulations.
I am very proud of our community and it was a good day for Yucca Valley.
