On March 16, 2013, at approximately 5:00 a.m., deputies from the Chino Hills Sheriff’s Station assisted officers from the Chino Police Department with a pursuit through the city of Chino Hills involving a suspected wanted fugitive. During the pursuit, the suspect rammed vehicles belonging to citizens as well as a Sheriff’s patrol unit. The pursuit traveled through surface streets and along three different freeways at speeds up to 90 miles per hour. The pursuit was terminated on the sound bound 15 freeway when the suspect lost control of his vehicle and came to rest on the west side of the freeway behind a local business. A short foot pursuit ensued until the suspect entered a running semi truck and attempted to assault deputies. Sheriff’s Deputies and Chino Police Officers opened fire and the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
San Bernardino Sheriff’s Homicide Division was called and is conducting the investigation. Anyone witnessing the incident or anyone with additional information is urged to contact Sheriff’s Homicide.
