Yucca Valley: PFF Building? Old Walmart Building? In & Out Still Coming?

white elephantYucca Valley, Ca.,- Town Manager Mark Nuaimi is taking his act on the road to answer questions, discuss current events and give updates on the status of the PFF bank building. The foreclosed Pomona First Federal building was purchased by the  Yucca Valley Redevelopment Agency in a bidding war against the public.  It has sat vacant for several years as an eye sore often dubbed the “Yucca Valley White Elephant” on the main highway.

With the dissolution of the Redevelopment Agency ordered by Governor Jerry Brown, this property now sits in limbo and the Successor Agency in charge of winding down all RDA assets reports to the Department of Finance.  Once this property is disposed, the funds will be distributed among the several taxing agencies including the school district, hospital, fire department and the town. In the case of the PFF Bank building, on other occasions, Nuaimi has reported the “possibility” of the Department of Finance allowing the town to keep this asset. Wishful thinking, as I see it.

The public is invited to attend this presentation meeting. Light refreshments will be served at no charge but donations will be accepted.

I like the way you put this story together.

You know, what 29 Palms, Yucca Valley and all the rest of the 53 offending cities don’t get is that they are all culpable (among other legal breaches of the law) of what is called the Doctrine of Unclean Hands.

In their attempt to recoup old redevelopment funds under rather flimsy contract defenses (unenforceable covenants), even if these covenants would hold up in court battles (highly unlikely), the Doctrine disqualifies them from obtaining relief because of their unclean hands in going outside the law when told not to.

Nonetheless, they all illegally moving forward with redevelopment plans when California law and judicial decisions prevented it.

Meanwhile, RGS consultant and the law firms — to wit Rutan & Tucker — continue to rake in massive amounts of legal fees.

Are you listening 29 Palms and Yucca? Please stop being a rubber stamp for your town manager, city manager and lawyers and outside influences like the League of California Cities.
