California lawmakers condemn Oscar host Seth MacFarlane…

I love this guy in a manly sort of way.

“On Oscar night, when Hollywood seeks to honor its best, Seth MacFarlane’s monologue reduced our finest female actresses to caricatures and stereotypes, degrading women as a whole and the filmmaking industry itself”

– wrote Assemblywoma.n Bonnie Lowenthal and Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, who lead the Democratic Legislature’s women’s caucus in a letter to Academy President Hawk Koch.

“This should be a celebration of artists in the filmmaking industry, not an offensive display of disrespect toward women that sets the fight for gender equality, dignity, and respect back decades,” they added.

I would like to hear the views of women on Macfarlane’s hosting. Personally, I think he was one of the best hosts. We ought to never take ourselves too serious. We all are not that far removed from other animals we share with on planet Earth.

One comment in the Yahoo/AP story wrote: These two “lawmakers” need some attention? Don’t watch the Oscars, like I didn’t, and you won’t be offended:) I mean who wants to sit & watch actors, who make more money than 200 families make in 5 years, just for “one ” movie, yap on & on to stroke their ego’s????

Another commentor wrote: Get paid to have sex in a movie they call it pornography and it is legal. Get paid to have sex in private and it is called prostitution and is illegal. Over 90% of the porn movies are filmed in California. The two women complaining are “lawmakers” maybe they should check their own state and laws…

Then this comment: Holy crappola – these “politically correct police” just need to shut the freak up. Too much time on their hands better spent doing the job we pay them for…

From what I understand, he’s irreverent and doesn’t pull the politically correct hollywood direction. He’s no friend of conservatives either. He is hollywoods Palestinian. Not wanted by any, but used by them as a useful idiot.

But your OK with Seth Branson, saying “We ought to never take ourselves too serious.” unless of course someone wants a sugary drink. Like I said you guys make no sense, these “lawmakers” are the ones you support.

Well, I had to look up Seth Mcfarlane to see who he is and what he does/did. He writes for The Family Guy. My very grown son watches the Family Guy, and he likes all things bawdy and The Three Stooges. That tells me alot about Seth, so what did the Oscar’s expect? I didn’t watch it…it is booorrriinng, yawn. Perhaps some bawdy humor kept people awake. If something offends me, I turn it off…don’t read it…look the other way. Here is what I feel, as a woman…I love the fact that I am able to discuss the size of a man’s package and tell dirty jokes..admit that women masturbate, without people gasping for air. I will trade off a few offensive remarks about women in exchange for my own freedom to express myself…especially about men.

He also wrote and directed the Movie “TED” with Mark Wahlberg which broke box office records. He also writes other TV animated stuff and voices. This guy is so talented (and rich). Very gifted guy.

LINDAG, generally I agree with you about turning it off. I also understand where Branson and Dirt Rider are coming from. Humor is much like beauty. It’s in the eye of the beholder. I think the guy is talented but there is a time and place for just about everything. I saw the end of the show and thought he wasn’t going over to well with the audience. As you mentioned what did they expect? I don’t blame the messenger as much as I would blame producers. His style is not suitable for family audiences. The truth is that I find that child oriented shows that air raunchy commercials much more offensive. FWIW I’ve heard that even Rush Limbaugh was contacted by Seth and told Rush that he understands how conservatives hate the media.

The show is by no means intended for children, I will not let my children watch it. My kids don’t even get to watch the Simpsons.
I love the show and currently am building my library, you just can’t take it to seriously (it is a cartoon. Rush Limbaugh has actually voiced for himself in a couple of episodes as have many other well known persons.
I agree with LINDAG about the oscars boring.
Seth is also responsible for American Dad.
