Yucca, AZ- Mohave County Deputies responded to the 16000 block of Lynn Avenue in Yucca in reference to a welfare check on Tuesday (2/12). Family members tried unsuccessfully to speak with Carol Drake, 66 years of age by phone for the past three weeks. This is very uncharacteristic of Carol not to be in contact with her family members. In addition family members have received numerous phone calls by Carol’s neighbors, stating they have not had contact with Carol Drake within that three week period.
It was reported to MCSO that Carol Drake lives with her 46 year old son Roger Drake. Roger Drake has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. The neighbors have checked on Roger and noted he was out of his medications and running low on food.
When deputies made contact with Roger Drake at the residence, he told deputies that Carol Drake left for California with a friend to visit family members. Deputies contacted Carol Drakes family and learned that Carol Drake had not been to California.
On Friday (2/15), Detectives obtained a search warrant for the Drake residence. During the search of the yard, detectives discovered a shallow grave which contained human remains which are believed to be that of Carol Drake.
Roger Drake was not present at the time of the execution of the search warrant. It was learned he was self admitted at the Mohave Mental Health Facility in Kingman. Detectives responded to Mohave Mental Health and arrested Roger Drake. He was transported to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office for an interview, where he confessed to the homicide of Carol Drake. Roger Drake advised he first punched Carol Drake and stabbed her numerous times with a kitchen knife. Roger Drake stated that the “dream police” had told him to kill Carol.
Roger was booked into the Mohave County Jail for 1st Degree Murder a class one felony and Abandonment Concealment of a Dead Body a class five felony.
The cause of death is pending autopsy.
