Open Letter to 29 Palms City Manager Richard Warne

richard warneRichard, did you know that the former City Councilman Mayor John Cole is not the Mayor of Twentynine Palms? No kidding. The new Mayor in your town is Joel Klink.

Is it okay to ask you to remove the picture of John Cole from the City’s homepage?

That’s not all Richard… There is a new council member in town too. No kidding. Councilwoman Cora Heiser was  elected to fill the seat of former councilman John Cole. She was sworn in on December 11, 2012.

How time flies, Huh?

Why is Ms. Heiser not shown as a council member with the other  four council members? Why is her Bio not shown? Why in her stead is John Cole’s Bio still shown on your City’s homepage?

Ms. Heiser is a very popular addition to the city council. I’m sure the community would appreciate it if you have the time to bring your City’s homepage up-to-date.

I offer to update the misinformation on your city’s webpages at no charge. FWIW, I use to be an application specialist for a year teaching government applications (working for a national corporation listed on NYSE). I think I can handle it.  If not then I can contact DanO. He might help.

Art in Public Placesand “art meeting agendasare updated and current. Good for you Richard.

That is a good thing because of the large art community in the Basin. However, the political aspect of webpages and meetings information Links are important as well.

I know you’re real busy guy down there in City Hall as a seated Board Member of the Oversight  Board and trying to sift through all the mumbo-jumbo of old RDA funds, Project Phoenix and creating those dazzling Power Point presentations. And driving a stake through the heart and soul of the Twentynine Palms Fire (without proper funding)  takes up your time too.

That last Power Point presentation hit on the fire department was a humdinger.

Just a friendly suggestion here, that’s all.

Your friend, Branson Hunter.

I’ll keep checking. Thanks a bunch.

    Branson,
I have to take the hit for the missing bio. I have been asked for one, but haven’t done it yet. However, this was a good reminder so I am going to do one right now.
The picture…well I don’t like the way the first one turned out and since it will be on the wall, it must be presentable. I will have a redo on the 12th. Also our group picture will be taken on the 12th and that should be updated.
So I take the fall for this one. Except not changing out John and putting Joel in that is someone else’s problem.

Cora, congratulations from LaQuinta. I do not know you but assume if Dan was such a big supporter, you must be worthy. Time will tell, eh?

Anyway, thought I would just put in my two cents worth about your picture issue. Isn’t it funny that men do not obsess over this kind of thing…well not so much, anyway. Men seem to handle the “aging gracefully” thing better, comfortably exposing their bald heads and paunches. Not bothering with this nonsense, they are left with that time to deal with the more important issues of life. Nobody is going to critique your picture, except for another woman who has nothing better to do. Pity her as you really have some important work to do.

So you could do a couple things. Find a great picture of yourself when you were say 30ish years old and use that picture and to hell with anybody who has a problem with that. I see obituaries where this is done all the time and I think, “how sad, they died so young..”, or “they sure look good for 95″. Or, you could submit a really bad picture of yourself and then when people meet you they will say, “oh, you look so much [better/younger/prettier] in person…” and that will feed your ego.

No matter what you decide, I hope you put this issue aside knowing you now have more important things to concern yourself with and dedicate your time to those issues. Good luck…I am 50% envious and 50% glad I’m not in your shoes, lol. (I hate having my picture taken)

      LindaG,
Thank you for your congratulations. I just want to clear up a little something that in the grand scheme of things is minor, but I have a few minutes so… I wouldn’t use a picture from my 30′s, because a. it’s dishonest, b. I am confident with the way I look at 50.

I am not sure why Branson was so worried about the picture and bio, but because he appeared to be using it to insinuate that someone at city hall was at fault, I just answered the question with an honest answer.
Now I am trying to clear up a possible misconception that I put my “appearance over my duty”
For two years I have been dealing with the important isssues in this town and will continue to do so. In addition to City Council, I am a high school teacher, so I have plenty to keep me bus
      Good Luck in La Quinta.

Thank you for the comment Cora. Although I don’t feel you should take the hit for what is the city’s responsibility to inform the public who the leaders of the village are because all it takes on the Council Member Page is a quick update. For those who want take a quick look here is the Link:
    http://www.ci.twentynine-palms.ca.us/Council_Members.10.0.html

The update ought to say: Photo forthcoming. When the Bio Page is clicked on, likewise.

I’ve said this before: Cora will set the tone for the City Council to move forward with common sense, dignity and intelligence. Just as Cora teaches students, she’ll teach the council by way of example to be more responsive and responsible.

I love it… Someone gave me “one star” on this story but hasn’t the gumption to assert their own views. Please tell me why it’s okay to announce to the world that Mr. Cole is the City Mayor and keep his Bio on display?
