Officer involved in Pedestrian vs Unit

On Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at approximately 8:57 a.m., Nessia Fountain, 28, of Adelanto was traveling south on Jonathan Road. She stopped her vehicle in the southbound lane in front of Adelanto Elementary School and allowed her 8-year old son to exit the vehicle into the roadway. The 8-year old then ran behind her car and into the northbound lane of Jonathan Road while attempting to cross the road. Sergeant Wendell Anderson was driving a marked crosswalk-ahead-signSheriff’s unit northbound on Jonathan Road, passing in front of Adelanto Elementary School. According to several witnesses, he was traveling approximately 4-6 miles per hour. The juvenile was struck by the left front corner of the patrol unit and knocked to the ground. He was transported to Victor Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The accident is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). Anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy Jeff Wetmore or Deputy Darrell Holland at 760-241-2911.
