Rialto City Council Appoints former Council Member to fill Vacant Seat

RIALTO –In a earlier post on Cactus Thorns, it was reported the Rialto City Council was deadlocked on appointing a new member to fill the vacant seat.  Facing a deadline of February 9, 2013, to appoint or call for an election, where a Special Election could cost up to $285,000. The San Bernardino Sun reports: “Citing the need to present a united front as well as save the taxpayers money that would’ve been spent on a special election, the City Council in a 4-0 vote on Monday night appointed Lynn Hirtz to fill the vacant seat on the dais.

Hirtz’s previous stint as a council member was also a factor in the decision, as Councilman Shawn O’Connell said he desired that “the next person be experienced.”

Hirtz last served on the council in the mid-1990s. Reached by phone after the meeting, Hirtz, 64, said she was prompted to seek office at the urging of close friends.”
