On 01/09/13, an investigation began into numerous thefts of copper coils from residential air conditioner (AC) units in the Lake Elsinore area. During the investigation, a group of individuals were identified as “habitual” scrappers of AC unit coils. The scrappers were identified as Warren Dilallo, Brian Udink, Rebecca Hernandez-Udink, Michael Salinas, and Danyelle Hamlett-Dunbar. The investigation revealed that the five individuals mentioned were friends, or related to one another. Collectively the individuals had netted several thousand dollars from recycling AC unit coils in Lake Elsinore. The investigation led detectives to an address in the 18000 block of Lakeshore Drive in the city of Lake Elsinore. Detectives conducted surveillance into the group to determine how the AC units were being obtained. During the surveillance, detectives observed AC units being stolen from vacant or for-sale homes in the Southwest Riverside County area, then taken to the Lakeshore residence where the AC units were cut apart and later recycled for cash.

On 01/22/13, detectives from the Lake Elsinore Station arrested Hamlett-Dunbar while attempting to recycle about 2000 pounds of stolen AC unit coils. After her arrest, detectives went to the residence on Lakeshore and arrested Dilallo, Udink, and Hernandez. During the arrest, a sixth individual was identified as Justin Carter. Detectives recognized Carter as one of the individuals that participated in cutting the AC coils. Brian Udink was also found to be in possession of methamphetamines. An additional subject, Ryan Dunbar was arrested at the location for an unrelated outstanding felony warrant. The above-listed individuals were booked at the Southwest Detention Center.

Investigators estimated the group is responsible for approximately $100,000 in damaged and stolen A/C units and $20,000 to $30,000 in recycled profit.
