Twentynine Palms Ca– On Wednesday night, January 2nd at approximately 8:40 pm, firefighters from the 29 Palms and Combat Center fire departments were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 6100 block of Bagley Avenue in the City of Twentynine Palms.
First arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from a single-family residence with the fire threatening to extend to a vehicle and a travel trailer. Fire Chief Jim Thompson requested the two-person brush patrol from Wonder Valley for additional manpower as firefighters made an aggressive fire attack keeping the fire contained to the building of origin. However the fire in the residence had already extended into the attic space and kept the 13 firefighters busy for close to an hour before the fire was declared under control.
An elderly female and an adult male were home at the time of the fire and escaped without injury. The American Red Cross responded and provided assistance to the residents. Damage to the structure and contents was extensive with an estimated loss of $80,000. The fire started in the garage and the investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing.
