An opening reception for the “Palms” Art Show will be held on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Twentynine Palms Visitor Center & Gallery in downtown Twentynine Palms, 73484 29 Palms Hwy.
The reception is sponsored by the 29 Palms Inn and will feature light hors d’oeuvres and beverages. Music for the evening will be provided by acclaimed harpist and desert resident Patti Hood. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend and meet the artists.
This Art in Public Places group exhibition was designed to celebrate the iconic palms of our Mojave Desert locale, from the Washingtonia filifera palm trees at the Oasis of Mara and throughout the city to other interpretations of “palms.” The show will be on display through March 29, 2013.
Artwork in the show includes a variety of mediums, from paintings and photography to gourd art, paper, mixed media, and three-dimensional works, all by local desert artists.
The gallery is located inside the Twentynine Palms Visitor Center and Chamber of Commerce building on the highway downtown, at the corner of Desert Queen Avenue, and is open 9-5 Monday through Friday and 10-4 Saturday and Sunday.
Art in Public Places exhibitions are presented by the Public Arts Advisory Committee of the City of Twentynine Palms. For more information, contact the visitor center at (760) 367-6197 or go to www.visit29.org.
