We did a story a couple of days ago on a Father stabbing his son over a bottle of Dr. Pepper. We kind of thought it strange and decided to do a little background on the story.
I was personally intrigued with the address. It sounded familiar. One of those addresses I’d heard of years ago. 57000 Block of Mariquita Road, Landers. So I up and Google the address and wow!
It turns out that the Mariquita Road address was the location of another murder in 2004. Jutta Biggerstaff wrote an article in 2007 about the sentencing of Timothy Shawn Blackburn, then 32, in the killing of his father, 50-year-old Johnny Blackburn, in his home in the 57000 block of Mariquita Road in Landers.
…Detectives at the time declined to speculate on how the victim died, but the coroner’s office reported later he died of blunt-force trauma to the head.
Blackburn was arrested at his father’s home after a neighbor detained him for trespassing on the property. Arriving deputies noticed a strong odor of decomposition and soon found the victim’s partially buried body.
According to the California Penal Code, mayhem is the crime committed when a suspect “…maliciously deprives a human being of a member of his body, or disables, disfigures or renders it useless, or cuts or disables the tongue, or puts out an eye, or slits the nose, ear or lip.”
Proceedings against Blackburn were suspended temporarily until 2006 he could be evaluated mentally.
In January of [2007] the court found Blackburn was mentally competent to stand trial and criminal proceedings against him were reinstated.
He was subsequently sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Fade to December 2012
A 17 years old stabbing victim from Landers, was transported to the emergency room of the High Desert Medical Center by a female, later identified as 51 year old Jacklen Crossen.
The victim was suffering from a stab wound to his abdomen and was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is listed in critical condition. Deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station responded to High Desert Medical Center to conduct an investigation and found Crossen left the location prior to their arrival.
Detectives took over the investigation, serving a search warrant at 44 years old Teddy “Guy” Cannon’s residence in the 57000 block of Mariquita Road. Cannon was later located hiding inside of a residence in the 4200 block of Youngs Freeway in Landers.
Cannon, the father of the 17 year old victim, was arguing with the victim over respect issues and use of a Dr. Pepper soda drink. Cannon stabbed the victim in the abdomen with a knife during the argument. Cannon was later transported to High Desert Medical Center by Crossen.
Cannon was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for Attempt Murder. Crossen was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for Conspiracy.
Are you starting to see a picture here? Could this address be more than just another cabin in the desert? Could this be a portal to Hell itself?
Can this home be the desert version of the “Overlook Hotel?” Are malevolent beings or a being able to control the minds of those who live within it’s walls? Can they drive a man mad? Can they drive a man to murder itself?
