On Wednesday, December 19, 2012 the 29 Palms Water Board will conduct their meeting. The agenda for the Fire Department portion of the meeting lists the following:
“Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Retention of the Fire Department and Future Financial Actions”
As reported in the Desert Trail we should be presented with an accurate presentation regarding the financial status of the Fire Department and perhaps other options for service evaluated in an objective manner.
The Water Board took a courageous action at their last meeting in response to the comments made by the public to delay the application to LAFCO for transfer of fire protection to County Fire. Lets show the Water Board that we appreciate their willingness to listen and again show up at the meeting to hear the presentation and offer our continued support.
Public safety - join us at the Water Board meeting,

Are we sure it’s Wednesday? Didn’t they state the next meeting would be on the 18th?
Hi Steve,
The Water District/Water Board meeting is tomorrow, the 19th of December at 6:00 PM at the Water District headquarters.
I think it was the council meeting that was special set for the 18th of January but even that date has changed due to filming conflicts.
But I will see you tomorrow night at the Water District and bring friends to show our support for the Water Board and to also allow all of us to get informed of the real situation.
I just found out today that there are many citizens in town that actually think the city already pays for the fire department. How that is I have no idea but we need to educate and do it fast.
It was a good meeting tonight. And several bottom lines were established.
First is that the Water Board is willing to work with the city via the elected leaders. Specific mention was made of that. That an outreach to the Mayor and Mayor pro-tem will occur. The mention of city staff being involved in that outreach was not mentioned.
The second bottom line is that the fire department has options and one of them is to find additional funding of $280,000.00 in order to keep both stations up and running with 6 firefighters is needed for 2013.
The final bottom line is that it was clearly established that county fire is very, very, expensive and it will in fact reduce our fire protection service level by 50% if we do not save our own fire department.
There was more and I am sure other reports will be made.
I agree with Steve Spear, tonight was a good meeting. It was a step in a good direction. The key players for the future of 29 Fire are the public. Especially in the next meeting, the meeting in mid-January with the public, water dept, fire dept, and City council.
The Fire Chief and Wayne Jones did a good job with facts tonight. Anyone present or those watching will learn a lot. Education is another key to getting this right.
I am very proud of 29 leadership tonight.
