On Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at 2:16 a.m., Officers from the La Quinta Police Department responded to a carjacking at Avenue 52 and Jefferson St, in La Quinta. The investigation determined the victim gave two male subjects a ride. One suspect sitting in the back seat brandished a firearm and robbed the victim of an undisclosed amount of money. The victim was driven to a remote area in the desert and released. Thermal Station investigators responded and assumed the investigation.
- Suspect # 1 was identified as Jesus Jonathan Garcia, 21 years old. Investigators located Garcia in the city of Coachella and arrested him for robbery and kidnapping. He was later booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio.
- Suspect # 2 was described as Hispanic male adult, 20-years-old, shaved head, 6 ft., 160 lbs., wearing a black hoodie.
