Public life is not a science. There are times that one drives the attack forward in the hopes that if one takes two steps forward and one step back then a victory of sorts is obtained. Then there are other times that one must take three steps back following the two steps forward.

That is my situation today.

I have a passion for the welfare of 29 Palms and none can deny that. In that passion I can be as friendly as can be or as mean and nasty as the best of them.

We as a city are facing an incredible problem in terms of our Fire Department. But that is not the reason for this post.

I did something today that I would never had done nor even contemplated of doing except for the request of a good friend of mine. That friend indirectly asked me to listen to the Up Close show on Z107.7. That friend somehow knew that the issue of our Fire Department might be a major point of discussion on that show and it was.

To cut to the chase I am now retracting my prior comments in my story “Z107.7 let the Hype and Distortions Begin”.

Today Gary Daigneault and I actually interacted on the air about our Fire Department. I can tell you all that I had great anxiety in actually dialing that number but I needed to do it for that friend. But as it turned out I needed to do it for myself.

Gary was a true professional today and he treated me as if all the past bad blood was non-existent. He and I actually spoke to each other in front of the whole Morongo Basin without any form of bias – it was very, very, civil and I think helpful for the city of 29 Palms and maybe, just perhaps maybe, both he and I.

He will always be the voice of Z107.7 and I will always be me – both of us at times very ardent in our beliefs and thereby very vocal in our disagreements.

What I did hear today was a professional seeking information.

I take the three steps back.
