On Monday, November 12, 2012, Cold Case Detectives completed the extradition of Dennis Pease from Orange County, Florida to San Bernardino County. Pease was arrested in July of 2012 and fought his extradition to California. Recently, the Florida Governor issued a warrant to extradite and the court agreed with the extradition.
Pease was booked into Central Detention Center for Murder and bail is set at $1,000,000. He is scheduled to appear in San Bernardino Superior Court on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 8:30 a.m.
SUMMARY: On November 11, 2005, a deceased white male adult was found on Swarthout Canyon Road in Cajon Pass. The male victim was later identified as Willard Eichler, a resident of Fresno, CA. An autopsy was completed and several traumatic injuries were identified and his death was believed to be a homicide.
In 2005, Dennis Pease was located driving Eichler’s missing Ford LTD. Pease was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm and sentenced to state prison for one year. After his release, Pease was a transient.
Sheriff’s Homicide Cold Case Team assumed the investigation and completed additional interviews. Evidence from the scene and Ford LTD was analyzed and linked Pease to the murder. A warrant was issued for Pease’s arrest on January 20, 2012 for the murder of Willard Eichler.
On Wednesday, July 18, 2012, Pease was located by a U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force in a transient camp in Orlando, Florida. Pease was arrested and is currently in custody and awaiting extradition to San Bernardino County, CA.
The Sheriff’s Homicide Detail Cold Case team is funded in part through a $500,000 grant award from the U.S Department of Justice for “Solving Cold Cases with DNA.”
