Unsure? Vote No Measure U (Commentary)

The Town of Yucca Valley placed this 1% General Fund Tax, 30 years, on the ballot which only requires 50%+1 vote, and is estimated to generate $160 million dollars.

Measure U was written to confuse and deceive the voters in order to pass their tax. Opponents against Measure U were denied equal time on the local radio station, church presentations and charged rent for the use of the Town Community Center to present their Forum, The Truth About Measure U.  YouTube Video >>>Link

The total amounts spent by the Town and Proponents to promote this Measure have surpassed the $250,000.00 mark, not including Staff time and Town fees waived for their presentations at the Yucca Valley Community Center.

Bottom line: “The flaws of Measure U are too serious to ignore. If you’ve had any doubts about Measure U, it is your duty as a citizen-legislator to vote no.”-Dr. Curt Duffy

The Morongo Basin Property Owners Association has written on their website:

“It is the responsibility of those who put forth a ballot initiative to make it clear, reasoned, and carefully articulated. If a ballot initiative does not meet these tests, it is the responsibility of each voter, acting as a citizen-legislator, to vote against it becoming
law. A ballot proposition or measure should only become law when a solid, unassailable case has been made for its adoption.”

The commentary further states:

“Measure U is poorly crafted, deceptively promoted, and fiscally irresponsible. The basis of Measure U rests upon a contract that never materialized. Instead, a non-binding resolution is the only thing that might deliver any of the tax revenues to the Hi-Desert Water District. And the State has indicated that Measure U
won’t lower anyone’s sewer assessment.”

  1. A quarter of a million dollar$ is a lot of chee$e to $ell the unsaleable. It ought to have somehow went toward college scholarships for those in the Basin struggling to stay in college.

The Desert Star is solidly behind the unnecessary tax which will fund an athlete field named after a newspaper mogul who’s daughter is publisher of the Desert Star, and Desert Trail. How many more Sky Harbor projects are in the works? How much of the money will be used as a personal fund as seen fit by the town manager.

Why would anyone vote for a new tax when it is not known how it will be spent?

    Vote no on Measure U.
