Gregg Imus’ Responses to Paul Cook’s Accusations

Accusation:

As of July 2012, all of the California companies owned by Gregg Imus have been dissolved or suspended by the Franchise Tax Board – though he still owns companies in Nevada and Maine.

Response:I started Gregg Imus Construction in 1989. I was encouraged by my accountant to incorporate so I did so in 1995 starting Gregg Imus Construction Inc. and closing out the first company. After 10 years running that company I formed Wm. Gregg Imus Const., Inc. in 2005 and then dissolved the former company. Wm. Gregg Imus Const., Inc. is currently active and working with clients on several contracts. As far as Nevada and Maine companies, I own shares in a partnership. Both of these are non-income producing.

Accusation:

Rents a small 2 bedroom house in California, but owns a time share in Las Vegas and a 5 bedroom home in Maine, which he calls his residence.

Response:I actually rent a 3 bedroom house in Lake Arrowhead. I once owned a beautiful 5 bedroom home in Lake Arrowhead that I built for my family. After the economic downturn, I had to sell my house. I do own a time share in Las Vegas that I have not been to in years. In 2006, my wife and I did buy a 3 bedroom fixer upper in Maine for a vacation/income rental property.

Accusation:

Arrested for Battery in 2005, and has an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on another charge.

Response:Yes, I am not ashamed to say that I was arrested and handed a ticket in 2005 for battery. It was reduced to an infraction and I paid a $75.00 fine. My 25 year old daughter, who worked at a nursing facility, had been threatened by a stalker who was a violent drug user. She called me and asked me to come help. I did respond but I never laid a hand on him. All fathers will understand; I will always defend my daughter. As far as the supposed outstanding warrant for failing to appear citing Ventura County Superior Court, this is absolutely false. I have called and entered the case number and nothing comes up on the computer. I don’t think I have even entered into Ventura County since I was young.

Accusation:

He and his wife collected $34,000 in unemployment during 2010.

Response:I am a custom homebuilder. When the housing market crumbled, like many in this country, we were unemployed and had paid years into the unemployment program. If you look into our past, we had never collected before. This economic downturn is the precise reason I am running for this seat.

Accusation:

He has been sued repeatedly for alleged construction defects, with claims totaling millions.

Response:If my opponent had ever worked a day of his life in the private sector he would understand what we small business owners go through. Unlike my opponent who has signed the backside of a check his entire life, I have for years signed the front side. In my career I have successfully completed hundreds of contracts. Because I am a licensed and insured contractor it makes you a target in this state. Legislators like my opponent have never pushed for the TORT reform which would prevent many frivolous lawsuits.

Accusation:

He failed to vote in 20 of the last 34 elections.

Response:Yes, I have missed 20 votes in the last 17 years; none of which were Presidential Elections.Paul Cook has failed to vote 29 times in the last four years as a paid elected official! He has been AWOL at over 15 debates and forums for this congressional seat. As you can see, Paul Cook has been AWOL as a paid state legislator:

Shame to hear you guys had to depend on socialized insurance. Was it only one year or did you get the extensions?
How do you do that as a contractor? You incorporate and then hire yourself as an employee writing the business off at a loss.I can understand. A lot of Americans had to use such tactics to survive the drop in the market.
In what year were your border hours accumulated?

Terry, you can’t collect unemployment insurance unless you’ve paid into it. As far as a contractor without a complaint, most complaints against contractors are based on ignorance or a shakedown. As far as defending a family member or friend. That’s called character, something that the Cook campaign seems to be lacking in. When your in the trenches getting your ass kicked in by the enemy, when all else fails throw dirt to obscure their view. Why, because Mr Cook has exposed his true nature. He’s a slimeball. Does Mr Cook want to make public his private records in the military? Come on Paul Cook. We know the truth about what happened but we were hoping that you would not hide your past from us. The truth will find you sooner than later. Care to take a paternity test?

You don’t pay unemployment your employee does.
You incorporate, hire yourself, and write it all off. Even your wages become a write off. As he said, the business doesn’t make a profit. You do.
Blaming one’s police record on violent drug addicted stalkers doesn’t really show much character.
A contractor myself, as well as having worked for many fine contractors, I can state firmly, getting sued is not par for the coarse. It is not common. We are not victims.

So terry what do we do we have only these two to choose from, one embedded in the bureaucracy that has failed the citizens, the other not an optimal business man, and it sounds like he spent a year collecting unemployment while chasing so called illegals on the boarder Border looking for work. Doesn’t look like congresses approval rating is going to improve anytime soon.

Terry…. The EMPLOYER pays every cent of that unemployment insurance…. That is why employers have the right to deny you unemployment benefits….

Terry if you haven’t been in business….. Just shut up… you look stupid.

I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6…. I will and have defended my family and even got cuffed for it…. I see nothing Wrong with defending his daughter… You can be the perpetual victim all you want…. I believe he did what he had to do, Obviously so did the judge.

Well if you didn’t know that you paid for all unemployment insurance you must be the dumbest Contractor in the State of California. What is your contractors license number Terry? Mine is 508792…. I’ve got mine on inactive now because of the economy and lets face it not much underground construction going on… but I have been a contractor since 1987. I can tell you even I got sued once. The Court House is filled with Contractors on Small Claims day…. You really don’t know what the f’k you are talking about.

Been served a few times, couldn’t hold that against anyone or business, now if there was a pattern of at fault rulings that my friend would be troubling.

and to hell with CSLB, I will do my contracting without CSLB lol, they rarely enforce the license requirement. I wonder how much work in 29 is legal, considering all the rentals I wonder how much is illegal?

I did say employee. I meant the employer pays it on the employee. You don’t pay it on yourself.
when I start paying you ad space. I’ll post my number. In the mean time, you have my name, look it up. It only takes half a brain so maybe if you and your friend that’s into spanking boys team up, you can get someone to do it for you.

Terry, as Gregg said. He was protecting his daughter. It was not stated as an excuse but fact. I know that your point of view is let the perp have their way then after they kill someone let the law handle it just like you defended the baby killer.
On contractors being sued. Your wrong as usual. Most contractors have been sued or had multiple complaints against them if they’ve been in business for a while. Please post your californias contractors license up for us so we can take a look for ourselves.

Lying politicians piss me off and your slip is showing too, Sir! …“A contractor myself…” – Yea right! So what’s your license number Elam? You don’t even know how UI works (it’s on the test, eh?) and you want us to believe you’re some sort of freaking contractor.

You wouldn’t make a pimple on a contractor’s ass. A day laborer working under the table – maybe! But you really should see a professional about the delusions of grandeur. Cook/Elam, birds of a feather.

Terry, your ignorance is only rivaled by your arrogance, your fraudulent claims about knowing something about how Unemployment Insurance is funded is proof of this, being sued is common in a state where regulations and the governing board overseeing contractors is entirely on the side of the consumer, not the contractor, who pays to support the governing board, pays to have insurance as mandated by law, pays for a bond, by law, pays ALL of the benifts to EDD for future Unemployment claims, pays for permits, associated fees and licenses, and then at the end of a sometimes 16 hour day tries to make a profit, while putting ourselves at risk of failure and litigation. You sir, are an ignorant ass, and your avatar has a disturbing resemblance to John Gacy, a friend of yours?
