Pioneer Days Kick Off Weekend Fizzled Vendors Sizzled

First… I wanted everyone to know that I am in support of Pioneer Days and the work that the chamber has done on it. This is not an indictment but a honest observation. Something we need to work on as a community:

The Parade I understand went as well as expected. I was busy setting up at the park so this is hearsay.

I gotta say this with the most delicacy  This week’s kick off of the 29 Palms Pioneer Days was … Hmmm…. errr… well, lets say disappointing.

Several food vendors, business booths and non-profits who paid good money to be there were promised large crowds. They were a little disappointed with the lackluster turnout.

Saturday’s events went off pretty well, though the crowds did not materialize.

Sunday’s Pet Parade was…ah, well it was a Pet Parade Yes indeed. the rest of the day was cancelled.

We hope that next week with the carnival,  will bring bigger crowds and a chance to recoup our losses.

Who’d a thought it, small town annual festivities drug out over weeks = old timers now living out of town no show, costly and two off payday weekends= loss, dictate what vendors sell = resentment and hard feelings, so many ill concieved venues competing for the same dollars well you get it.

Don’t feel alone Dan I drop $200 bucks at the arm wrestling in return some of my team had fun but other than that there was not much value in participating,
If the city bails out the Chamber and it is still here next year, well here is my donation. http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/meeting-and-event-planning-for-dummies-cheat-sheet.html

Gosh, they had a full house at the Historical Society for old timer’s day. Good times and plenty of out of towners.

There were quite a few folks around the tables in the park. And if I remember correctly they had a football game going over at the school. Did any of those folks come by?

That was Saturday… we had twice the crowd total at the 4 hours of “Historic Plaza Days” as all day Saturday….. Sunday was cancelled….

While I am a tad disappointed, I for one plan to work with vigor to change this disturbing trend and will jump in as soon as practicable to begin promoting and organizing for next year’s celebration….

We can do Better. I’m willing to pitch in and help.

Let the Chamber know you are going to help. You’ll do better this coming weekend with the carnival.
