Yucca Valley, Ca,- A presentation by the Vote No Measure U Committee was held in the Community Center in the Yucca Room with 62 citizens in attendance. This forum came as a result of having been denied equal time by the local radio station and Joshua Springs Calvary Church to present another side to Measure U, Yucca Valley’s 30 year General Fund 1% Sales/Use tax.
Many in attendance were undecided or sitting on the fence but decided to vote NO by the end of the meeting. Several in favor of Measure U tried to stump the citizen panel with their questions and challenges but were readily handled with expert answers covering several subject matters.
The Citizen panel included Dr. Curt Duffy bringing his corporate business experience and economic background to analyze Measure U, Past YV Mayor Pro-Tem Lori Herbel bringing her four years experience on the Town Council, YV School teacher/Water Board Candidate Claude Short presenting the school districts sewer assessments, Past Three time Yucca Valley Mayor Bob Leone (Write-in Candidate) addressing the current Measure I funding for roads, Rae Packard President of the Morongo Basin Property Association and myself, Past YV Planning Commissioner/YV Parks & Rec Commissioner sharing an overview of the Yucca Valley Town Council runaway spending over commitmenting of the last two years. The one common thread of this committee from various backgrounds is their love for the community they chose to live in. They spoke with passion and desire to educate the public that Measure U will NOT lower sewer assessments then presented their alternative 1/2 cent tax proposal dedicated towards the sewers.

I must ask you this question since you appear to be the Campaign Manager for Bob Leone.
Could you tell me why I received a Robo call from (760) 228-3334 at 6pm on a Sunday evening asking me to vote for Bob Leone when my phone number is Registered with the National Do Not Call Registry?
This is wrong and should be understood by someone with his experience.
Sunday is a day many people reserve to dedicate to the Lord and family.

#28 Will All Telemarketing Calls Stop If I Register?
If I register my number on the National Do Not Call Registry, will it stop all telemarketing calls?
No. Placing your number on the National Do Not Call Registry will stop most telemarketing calls, but not all. Because of limitations in the jurisdiction of the FTC and FCC, calls from or on behalf of political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors would still be permitted, as would calls from companies with which you have an existing business relationship, or those to whom you’ve provided express agreement in writing to receive their calls. However, if you ask a company with which you have an existing business relationship to place your number on its own do-not-call list, it must honor your request. You should keep a record of the date you make the request.
@Steve W. The Sunday time slot is to respect all voters. It did not disturb the dinner hour,it was not late at night, most church attendees were home preparing for the week, work or school. Our Senior citizens were stll awake. It was only a 30 second call with a human voice of a trusted and experienced citizen who is also a Christian.
Regarding “Do Not Call” I have received calls and was informed that my request needed to be renewed.
I am not manager for Write-in Candidate BOB LEONE for Yucca Valley Town Council, but I can tell you the decision was not taken lightly by the fellow citizen volunteers.
The Town of Yucca Valley has spent $150,000.00 of our tax dollars to promote Measure U, including hiring professional campaign consultants.
As you are now a citizen of Yucca Valley, I believe in you to do the right thing. As always, I respect you and thank you for your comments.
