When does public safety trump public monuments?

While the City Council incumbents worry about how they are going to spend the tax increment on a Taj Mahal new City Hall/civic center, the people are concerned about Public Safety.

It would appear that Jim Harris and my old arch nemesis Jay Corbin are the only two members of the Council that have some empathy with everyday folks and their concern for the safety and welfare of their children and neighbors. The rest want to build crap that no one wants and no one needs all in the name of saving face. Last night’s agenda of spending money out of the reserve was only possible because Corbin took a little time off to visit relatives in Arkansas. Mr. Harris was pigeon holed all night by the bullying Mayor John Cole.

We have a major problem with a group of grown men having more a desire to have all the marbles in the Tax Bag to themselves to make their small self-coronated social group  of happy friends and campaign contributors in the pink, rather than  sharing the marbles in a way that makes everyone happy. The citizens rebelled a little last night. Did they get any where? Time will tell.

Last night a large group of concerned citizens came out to be heard on a really important Public Safety Issue. After years of spending MILLIONS of dollars on Monument  National Park Blvd., Utah Trail the street that the National Park Headquarters actually sets on, is without curbs, gutters or sidewalks. This 20 year  diversion of funds to National Park Blvd has been a annual drain on the road budget. It is finally getting to the folks in the Hanson Track, who’s children have been injured and even killed because of the City’s failure to move past building up the road to the 29 Palms inn as a continual major community project. The 29 Palms Inn has gotten more than their fair share of the public treasury. It is not to center of Tourism. It barely is able to match the Hill Top Motel in ToT. Most people think it is a waste of money to continually spend money on the same road. It is a sign of insanity when you do the same things over and over and expect a different result. Most think it is pandering to a small group of vocal snobs, who think their feces does not stink. If free meals get major public works projects, can I interest the Council in a free hot dog or sausage? How about some pulled pork?

How many children will it take to to die or be maimed as a result of a dangerous lack of public safety concerns of the City before the City Council to decide that it Public safety trumps the building of public monuments?
