Town of Yucca Valley and Hi-Desert Water District Pre-Nuptials Don’t Hold Water…

Ship of Fools

Yucca Valley, Ca.- In an effort to show a pretentious united front regarding a potential solution to fund the possible sewer project, without actually committing, the Town of Yucca Valley and the HDWD say “I will, Sorta.”

Not legally able to advocate or promote the proposed Town General fund tax of $160 million over 30 years, both agencies have spent countless thousands of dollars to reach this point, not really convinced to take the plunge arm in arm to abandon this leaky raft. The one with a life jacket is the Town of Yucca Valley but will be heavily weighted down with bags of tax dollar gold, unable or unwilling to release all that glitters.

Yucca Valley Town Manager, Mark Nuaimi, having started out almost two years ago promoting a tax as 75% for sewers, 15% for roads and 10% for parks, is the master of the old “switch and bait” fooling the citizens of this town…so he thinks. Conducting himself with his air of arrogance, and over committing millions of dollars not in the Town’s coffers, he has now become the money hungry groom to this lopsided arranged marriage citing the “Golden Rule.” The one with the gold makes the rules while holding the HDWD and the sewer system as hostages.

Adding further insult, keeping the HDWD on a short leash with empty promises to stay close by if there are any crumbs left over if the tax dollars flow in from Measure U, his mantra is, “Stick with me baby!”

This week both agencies will hold  regular meetings to announce fancy Where-As Resolutions that say absolutely nothing concrete and hold less water than the kitchen sieve. It appears this tax folly is taking on water as the voting deadline is near.  Nuaimi, desperate to announce and wave around something in writing a bit more substantial than toilet paper, will present these toothless documents to the public as his final “look-at-this” trying to convince the voters to pass his tax.

“After receiving a devastating blow from straight-shooting Congressional candidate Gregg Imus, Measure U appears to be listing and slowly sinking. Today, confidential sources revealed that two fiscally conservative Yucca Valley  ex-council members (in addition to Bob Leone and Lori Herbel) are also not in favor of Measure U.”

  1. This cinches it, Measure U may die at the ballot box. Voters are paying more attention to what is going on in local politics.

It’s becoming more difficult to think of voters as a herd of zebras when asking to fund hundreds of millions of dollars for a project, taking decades to pay for, then convert the tax to a general fund for ordinary and unnamed discretionary city uses.

I wish the other candidate from this area running against Gregg Imus would have the courtesy of letting voters know where he stands on Measure U.
