Yucca Valley, Ca.-Last Saturday, Gregg Imus, Congressional Candidate for the 8th District, came to Yucca Valley for a “Meet and Greet,” hosted by Ann Mistal at the Las Palmas Restaurant providing a tasty buffet dinner for the guests.  It was also a time to celebrate Gregg’s birthday and volunteers drove in from Barstow filling the standing room only event. Wanda Sandoz provided a special birthday cake and delicious homemade cupcakes made from scratch.

Having attended a couple of these events, I can tell you Imus’ message stays true at each gathering.  His sincerity and genuine smile comes from his convictions and even his toughest critics have softened their stance, changing to support him, after spending  time with Gregg Imus.

During this stop in Yucca Valley, Imus spoke his mind about Measure U, unlike his opponent, Paul Cook who has been dodging the issue.

Cactus Thorns found out Cook’s staff created an internal uproar stating he was against Measure U, and then waffling later with a retraction. Story link here.

Gregg Imus Opposes New Taxes

A recent story on the Vote No Measure U website states, “Imus acknowledged that Yucca Valley needs to address its wastewater problems–but the plainspoken candidate said that if the sales tax revenues are put into the town’s general fund, they will just be wastefully spent on other things.

Measure U does not specify what its tax revenues will be used for. It is being deceptively marketed as a means to pay for Yucca Valley’s sewers and lower the associated assessments. This is simply NOT TRUE. While Gregg Imus zeroed in on Measure U’s flaws and is firmly opposing the deceptive tax initiative, his opponent in the Congressional race, State Assemblyman Paul Cook, remains inexplicably undecided. Cook is a resident of Yucca Valley and served on the Yucca Valley Town Council from 1998 to 2006. Yucca Valley is also in California’s 65th State Assembly District–which Cook has represented for three terms. Is it really possible that Paul Cook has NO OPINION about the most important issue in his town in over twenty years? Or is Paul Cook just hiding from the issue?”

Editors Note: The Publisher and Editor of Cactus Thorns in the spirit of accuracy, contacted the Gregg Imus Campaign for clarification on his specific position of Measure U. It is our understanding through direct conversations with Gregg that; While Gregg Imus is fundamentally against any New Taxes, he also believes that the People have the ultimate control of local government through the ballot box. Local issues should be decided at the local level, by those who are effected by the issue.

I must have attended some other meeting.

What I heard is Imus has a general and broad dislike of new taxes. Did I miss something?

No one should be surprised, You know she is lying when her lips are moving, I bet Greg will soon join the huge list of people that have asked her to stop stocking him, speaking about him, or "reporting about him" If you call this reporting. Dan even free speach should have its limits, when are you going to cut her off?

To be honest, I can understand Margo's confusion on this "did he or did he not say what she thought he said issue."

It all comes down to context.

We have to remember that Gregg Imus and Paul Cook are running for a Federal Office, not a local position. One must keep in mind when listening or reading their individual statements that they are for the most part speaking about Federal Issues.

In the heat of a local political battle, each side tends to grab hold of anything the might be an advantageous weapon against the other, So I can understand how Imus' statement that he is against any new taxes could be construed to take a position on a local issue.

Each of us have our own dogs in this years overall hunt, the trick is to keep our individual dog from taking the scent of another fellows prey.

In my perfect world my personal hunt includes in this order Cora Heiser and Greg Imus winning their respective elections, Obama loosing, No on all the State Tax Initiatives, praying for a peaceful transition of power and then getting back to the normal give and take of local politics... These are personal opinions.

While I draw the line at gratuitous attacks on me or my family or dead baby pictures, I try really, really hard to make this News Blog a beacon of 1st Amendment Rights. I hope I get it right most of the time. Sometimes we do not agree here. But it does not negate my inherent desire to be a fair merchant of information.

Everyone has the right to speak.... We are not going to revert to Egyptians or Libyans and demand an end to "free Speech" no matter how some might feel it is objectionable.
