Yucca Valley, Ca.-Last Saturday, Gregg Imus, Congressional Candidate for the 8th District, came to Yucca Valley for a “Meet and Greet,” hosted by Ann Mistal at the Las Palmas Restaurant providing a tasty buffet dinner for the guests. It was also a time to celebrate Gregg’s birthday and volunteers drove in from Barstow filling the standing room only event. Wanda Sandoz provided a special birthday cake and delicious homemade cupcakes made from scratch.
Having attended a couple of these events, I can tell you Imus’ message stays true at each gathering. His sincerity and genuine smile comes from his convictions and even his toughest critics have softened their stance, changing to support him, after spending time with Gregg Imus.
During this stop in Yucca Valley, Imus spoke his mind about Measure U, unlike his opponent, Paul Cook who has been dodging the issue.
Cactus Thorns found out Cook’s staff created an internal uproar stating he was against Measure U, and then waffling later with a retraction. Story link here.
Gregg Imus Opposes New Taxes
A recent story on the Vote No Measure U website states, “Imus acknowledged that Yucca Valley needs to address its wastewater problems–but the plainspoken candidate said that if the sales tax revenues are put into the town’s general fund, they will just be wastefully spent on other things.
Measure U does not specify what its tax revenues will be used for. It is being deceptively marketed as a means to pay for Yucca Valley’s sewers and lower the associated assessments. This is simply NOT TRUE. While Gregg Imus zeroed in on Measure U’s flaws and is firmly opposing the deceptive tax initiative, his opponent in the Congressional race, State Assemblyman Paul Cook, remains inexplicably undecided. Cook is a resident of Yucca Valley and served on the Yucca Valley Town Council from 1998 to 2006. Yucca Valley is also in California’s 65th State Assembly District–which Cook has represented for three terms. Is it really possible that Paul Cook has NO OPINION about the most important issue in his town in over twenty years? Or is Paul Cook just hiding from the issue?”

Editors Note: The Publisher and Editor of Cactus Thorns in the spirit of accuracy, contacted the Gregg Imus Campaign for clarification on his specific position of Measure U. It is our understanding through direct conversations with Gregg that; While Gregg Imus is fundamentally against any New Taxes, he also believes that the People have the ultimate control of local government through the ballot box. Local issues should be decided at the local level, by those who are effected by the issue.
