Needles, CA– On Saturday, September 22, 2012 at about 12:40 PM a group of people were riding personal water craft approximately 1 mile south of Jack Smith Park on the Colorado River in Needles California.
Deanna Loy Lewis, age 58, a resident of Mead, Washington and a companion had stopped to wait for other members of their party and were floating southbound when Lewis was struck by another personal water craft knocking Lewis off the water craft into the river.
A passing boat with a doctor on it stopped to render aid and transported Lewis to Jack Smith Park. Lewis was transported to the Colorado River Medical Center. Lewis was pronounced dead at 1:31 PM.
The Marine Enforcement Unit of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
