The Bones of a Woman found in Newberry Springs

You all know how cold case files and missing persons are some of my favorite subjects. This week another set of skeletal remains was found in Newberry Springs. Not that that is surprising but it appears that these are old enough to turn to bones.

Sheriff’s Detectives report:

On September 2, 2012, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Deputies from Barstow Station responded to the 49000 block of Silver Valley Rd, Newberry Springs, following a report of human remains being located. The reporting party found a human left foot with leg bones attached on her front porch. Her dog had been running outside her fence line and the dog carried the bones back from an unknown location in the desert. The reporting party called 911 and reported what her dog had found.

Detectives from Sheriff’s Homicide and the Coroner’s Division responded to the location to conduct the investigation. A search of the desert was conducted by investigators and additional human remains were located. The investigation is ongoing; the cause of death is unknown along with the race and sex of the remains.

Anyone with any information regarding this investigation is urged to call Detective Randy German or Sergeant Brad Toms at (909) 387-3598 at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Detail. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may contact the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463).

The Coroner stated:

Coroner case 701206194: On Sunday, September 2, 2012, at 6:50 PM, human remains were located in the desert along 49000 block of Silver Valley Rd. in Newberry Springs. The remains were determined to be those of a female (designated “Jane Doe #24-12″). Attempts to identify the remains and determine the cause of death are continuing. The incident is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department – Homicide Detail. Anyone with information is urged to call Sheriff’s Homicide Detail at 909-387-3589.

Newberry Springs unfortunately has seen its share of unidentified bodies of  lost souls. As an example, back in 2004 April Beth Pitzer, age 30 of Oklahoma went missing.

Now we have no idea if these two cases are related other than they are both in Newberry Springs, Ca and by now this victim would have been out in the desert for many years…..

  1. Mr. O’Brien-you might want to check the missing persons case of Lynn Bandringa, Hesperia,CA, 1967. There might be a connection to Newberry springs?
