On Friday, August 24 , 2012, at approximately 9:15 AM, personnel assigned to the Cabazon Station of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department served a search warrant in the 10200 block of Friendship Drive, in Cherry Valley. The search warrant stemmed from a 6-week investigation into illegal drug sales and drug trafficking from the residence.
During the service of the search warrant, investigators located several grams of “Tar” heroin and a gram of methamphetamine along with a large amount of drug paraphernalia. A loaded handgun with the serial number removed was seized, along with a large amount of ammunition. Also recovered on the property was a reported stolen vehicle from June, 2012.

Arrested at the residence on drug and weapons charges was 51-year-old Edward Hastings of Cherry Valley, along with his live-in caretaker, 21-year-old Sally Reeder of Cherry Valley. A third person at the residence, 43-year-old Carl Lufkin of Cherry Valley, was arrested on drug charges and a felony warrant related to a parole violation. Hastings was also charged with possession of the stolen vehicle. All three were booked at the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
