During her 15-year tenure in the Administrative Services Department of the City of Twentynine Palms, Cindy Villescas has garnered a variety of working titles. Now she is settling into her new position as City Clerk. Villescas officially accepted the appointment by the City Council at their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 24, 2012.
Villescas has been a constant and stable presence in the Administration wing of City Hall over the years, serving with city managers from Jim Hart, the late Michael Swigart, and Michael Tree, to interim manager John Tooker, and, since May 2011, current City Manager Richard Warne.
Her employment began in October 1997, when she was hired as an Office Assistant II in the City Clerk’s office. In December 1998, she was promoted to Secretary to the City Manager and Deputy City Clerk. She was named Administrative Assistant to the City Manager in 2002, and was renamed Executive Assistant to the City Manager as well as Animal Services Administrator in 2008.
Following the recent retirement of Char Sherwood, who had served as City Clerk since 1998, Cindy Villescas was appointed Acting City Clerk at the June 12 City Council meeting. She was officially offered the position of City Clerk and confirmed by the City Council on July 24.
“I am excited about my new venture and look forward to serving the City Council and the community as City Clerk,” Villescas said.
Villescas lives in Twentynine Palms with her husband, Mario (Chief Warrant Officer 3, USMC Retired), and 10-year-old son Gabriel, and has been a resident for 16 years.
