What is ominous is the ease with which some people go from saying that they don’t like something to saying that the government should forbid it. When you go down that road, don’t expect freedom to survive very long.
Thomas Sowell
It must have sounded like a perfectly good idea when Paul Cook decided to burden the off road community with what might be one of the most draconian nanny state ideas of the last couple of years in passage into law of AB 1594.
Instead of engaging with those constituents that actually would be affected by is legislation he cloistered with those that actually had malice in their hearts for the off road community.
Back in 2010 then California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger attached this veto message to Cook’s Assembly Bill 2419, which would have removed the apostrophe in the “Contractors’ State License Law.”
To the Members of the California State Assembly: I am returning AB 2419 without my signature …
- Number of legislative committees that took time hearing this bill: 3
- Number of pages in this bill needed to remove an apostrophe: 184
- Taxpayer dollars used to pass this bill through the Legislature: $ thousands and thousands.
- The outrage the public should have that the Legislature is spending its time “working” on bills like this instead of focusing on California’s real problems: PRICELESS.
Its called a record. A record of ineffective feel good legislation that dips into the public treasury in the same way that Sacramento political hacks have always done, just mostly under the guise of ”its Patriotic.”
Paul Cook is the Town Punch of Sacramento. Anytime a State Bureaucratic wants to push some insipid change in law or regulation that erodes personal liberty, they wrap in “it’s for the children” party paper or put it in a pretty Red, White and Blue box, then take it to Cook’s office, stroke his enormous ego, and tell him that, “this is for the team…. You do what to be part of the team don’t you?”
Paul Cook has spent a lifetime in a quest to be part of the “Team.” Instead of fighting for lower taxes and less government regulation, its more regulation and feel good proclamations. It is never what is good for the People but what is good for the Team.
While he has every right to be proud of his Military Service, his time as a adjunct lecturer at CMC and his time as a State Assemblyman, his whole adult life has been at the tit of government. He has made a career out of being a Bureaucrat.
This most recent legislation is the quintessential example of his disconnect with his constituency. To be honest I don’t think that the guy is bright enough to have written that piece of garbage legislation himself. I have this idea, wanting to be part of the ruling caste, that once again he was used as a tool by Sacramento Bureaucrats, by stroking his ego, to push through unpopular changes in law, they passed him a package and he ran with it..
So blinded by the phony adore of the Sacramento Left Wing Elite, Cook is the one who had everything to risk by promoting such anti-liberty legislation if discovered by his constituency. He has been caught. This time he went too far.
Like a stiff member, the mind of a throbbing Ego should not be followed.
Cook let us down. He need not be rewarded for it.
Feeding his Ego,
