Homestead Valley and Pioneertown residents protest the planned destruction of unique California landmarks, the lava mesas overlooking Pipes Canyon Road.

Clean Coal Plant
The New Desert Rock power plant in New Mexico’s Four Corners region
Nuclear power is an anathema to America.
Too bad, it is loved in Europe. The French have it down pat.
This spring, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that her country would be the first in the world to completely abandon nuclear power.

Double fault: nuclear safety at Diablo Canyon
Could a Fukushima-style disaster happen at one of California’s nuclear power plants?
Catastrophic Chernobyl Nuclear Accident 1986
The accident caused the largest uncontrolled radioactive release into the environment ever recorded for any civilian operation, and large quantities of radioactive substances were released into the air for about 10 days. This caused serious social and economic disruption for large populations in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine.

Danger Zone: Aging U.S. nuclear reactors
Despite the Fukushima catastrophe in Japan last March, nuclear power is experiencing a rebirth in the United States.
Well hell you have me convinced let just chop down every mountain top and fill the desert with Windmills and Solar Panels…
Lets not use a proven method but lets use what might be the most inefficient method to produce power ever devised by man…. Lets cap the oil and gas wells, blow up the damns and free the rivers.. cement in the reactors and go back to the middle ages. I am all for it. You and Terry have convinced me.
unPower to the People.
That’s not what I said. As usual you’re making up your argument.
Now. What would you want in your own backyard? I’m not asking what you want to happen somewhere else, in somebody else’s yard far far away.
Yet nuclear power was the clean energy of the environmental movement of the 60s, 70s and 80s. They told us that a 3 mile island type of occurrence would never happen. Another sales job assisted by the useful idiot earth worshipers. I hope you didn’t believe their hype then or now. Seems ironic that the lefties (not saying you are) romanticize over France but according to Dans chart above they should be on the top of your list of nations anathema by the world.
“Over the years, we’ve seen more and more children and adults coming in with asthma and respiratory problems, especially from the areas affected by the coal plant emissions,” said Adella Begaye, a Navajo Nation nurse with more than 20 years of experience in the area. “Big polluters such as the San Juan and Four Corners coal plants have to be held responsible for the health costs they cause.”
Coincidentally inoculations have increased in Tribal communities. It’s the we know whats best for you AMAs modern chicken pox sweater for the Indians. Hey, take a shot of this even though this disease is all but non existent on planet earth.

That’s why they should be in your back yard. They’re in mine. What are you willing to personally accept in yours in order to supply your wants and needs? It’s much easier to dump our messes elsewhere. isn’t it?
Really… that is what the sniping was about? Terry moved to an area with Windmills and now therefor all of us must live with windmills?
Certainly an interesting hypothesis.
The hypothesis is that we should keep our own mess in our own yards. Do you dump your trash over the fence? It is no different.
I don’t really like windmill farms. Like solar they belong in the cities and towns where the electricity is actually used. The farms are a compromise. Now what would you prefer in 29? I believe you need water for nuclear. I guess you could build a canal.
Your pie charts indicate that only around 20% of our electricity comes from nuclear while France gets 75% of theirs that way.
I would point out that, without the numbers, it might appear (at least by the charts) that France has more nuclear generation than we do. But appearances can be deceiving. IN FACT, THE UNITED STATES PRODUCES NEARLY SIX TIMES THE AMOUNT OF NUCLEAR POWER THAT FRANCE DOES.
According to Wikipedia the total electric energy production for the US in 2010 was 4,325,900 GWh and France’s was only 865, 200.
So the 20% we get from nuclear is 865,188 GWh. But 143,300 GWh is all France can muster from her nuclear generation even though it represents a full three quarters of her energy mix.
- “This spring, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that her country would be the first in the world to completely abandon nuclear power.” –
Easy for her to say… Much of Germany’s power is purchased from neighboring countries. What will she do about that?
do not confuse the argument with logic Mike.
