Rancho Mirage, Ca– On Thursday July 12, 2012 deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station’s Burglary Suppression Unit conducted follow-up investigation into the copper theft from the Rancho Mirage Library on July 2, 2012.
Deputies received information from a metal recycling business in Banning that a subject sold sheets of copper at the business. Deputies acted on the information and confirmed the copper sold to the recycling business fit the description and size of the copper sheets stolen from the library. The person who sold the copper was identified as Steven Cain, 45 of Palm Desert. He was contacted and arrested at his residence in Palm Desert for selling the stolen copper to the business in Banning. Further investigation by deputies implicated Cain in the grand theft and felony vandalism to the Rancho Mirage City Library.
Steven Cain was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio for grand theft, felony vandalism, possession of stolen property, and commercial burglary.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is committed to the safety of the citizens of this community and will be vigilant in investigating all crimes of this nature.
