Desert Hot Springs police Cmdr. Kate Singer has been named the city’s new police chief. Singer’s appointment means she will become the Coachella Valley’s first female police chief. City Manger Rick Daniels announced the appointment tonight, during an ongoing City Council session. He said he will negotiate a three-year agreement in the next few days. She will take over in a “change of command” ceremony on Aug. 9.
