Big Bear PSA: Sexual Predator Living Amongst You

Pursuant to California Penal Code 290.45, public notification, on Thursday 06/14/12 Martin Kenneth Smith, 07/31/64, a Sexually Violent Predator, became a resident of Big Bear Lake.

In 1994 Martin Smith was convicted in San Diego County for multiple counts of lewd or lascivious acts against a child under 14 years of age. He was initially sentenced to 10 years in prison, however, was paroled in 1999. Smith soon violated the terms of his parole and was sent back to state prison. Due to the heinous nature of his crimes, San Diego County Superior Court committed Smith at Coalinga State Hospital in 2006. He was recently released from civil commitment without any supervision or electronic monitoring. Smith is classified as a Sexually Violent Predator by the California Department of Justice. Of the 123,821 registered sex offenders (as of 04/20/11) in the State of California, less than 1 percent of those are deemed Sexually Violent Predators.

Martin Smith registered at the Big Bear Station on Thursday June 14, 2012 as required under PC290.015 and listed his new address as Motel 6, 42899 Big Bear Blvd., Room 152, Big Bear Lake, Ca. The motel is located in a residential area, surrounded by numerous single family homes inhabited by young families with children.

On Monday, June 18, 2012, Martin Kenneth Smith, notified the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station that he was no longer living at the Motel 6 located at 42899 Big Bear Boulevard.

Martin Smith has 5 days to register with the law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction that he is residing in.

Smith is a white male adult, 47 years of age, 5’7″, 180 lbs, brown hair and blue eyes.

Martin Smith is not wanted for any crimes at this time and he is not on probation or parole. This information is being disseminated for public safety.

His residence and status are subject to full disclosure pursuant to current State Law. Citizen’s are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and about those who live within their community.
