seniors 300x219 Electronic Bowling Program Scores with SeniorsSan Bernardino, Calif. ‐‐ On any given night in San Bernardino County, you can find seniors throughout the area throwing strikes, picking up spares and leaving splits, without ever stepping foot in an actual bowling center.
The Department of Aging and Adult Services has built upon its award winning “We Can” program. The “We Can” program gives county seniors an opportunity to keep active by competing in virtual bowling leagues and tournaments using the Nintendo Wii system.
“We initially started this program to provide our seniors with a fun way to stay active,” said Colleen Krygier, Director of the Department. “We never thought we would end up coordinating leagues and tournaments, and never could have imagined how popular it would become or how fierce the competition would be.”
The “We Can” program won the National Association of Counties award last year for its unique and innovative approach to creating an active environment for San Bernardino County seniors.
The Department will be showcasing the “We Can” program at the inaugural At Your Service
Community Resource Fair on Thursday, March 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga.
The Department provides service to seniors and at risk individuals to improve or maintain choice, independence, and quality of life.  The Department works to ensure seniors and adults with disabilities have the right to age in place in the least restrictive environment.
The County of San Bernardino is producing the At Your Service Community Resource Fair to help residents better connect with the programs that can improve the quality of their lives.
Offering free games, demonstrations and services for children, adults and seniors, the all‐day event is the first of its kind for the county.
Residents can learn about the recreation and tourism opportunities in their own community, as well as get health screenings and updated nutritional programs. There will also be an opportunity to learn how to do business with the County and discover some of the economic opportunities that San Bernardino County has to offer. At Your Service also offers cultural performances, local art and will even give attendees tips on how to dress for a successful job interview.
