“Lately, the rabble rousing … CactusThorns blog has been getting our attention. They’ve been tracking issues that all too often don’t seem to get much play in the older media out this way, and raising Cain in the process.” — Steve Brown, Publisher
Under the heading of New, Somewhat Abrasive, Media, the current issue of The Sun Runner (page 12) does an analysis on the impact of the Blog in our area. It’s a flattering, jabbing and interesting analysis.
The short article goes on to say “they’re not perfect,” their “approach occasionally lacks tack” and “sometimes civility.” That “if you can hold your own, you might even pick up a little respect.” I can’t dispute this, but after all it is a owner-operated Blog open to the community. Cactus Thorns does have its restrictions on foul vocabulary and unacceptable photos, but for the most part you are free to be yourself absent the pressures from advertisers.
A little jab here, a little salve there, but the Sun Runner recommends checking the Blog out.

Dan, sometime we should talk journalism because while you may moderate for foul vocabulary and unacceptable photos, you really need to moderate for personal threats, libel, and other unprofessional behaviors. There’s a way to discuss, disagree, and debate -- without making it boring -- and without sinking to those levels.
