On 03-07-10, at 7:50 AM, passerbys reported a car submerged under water in the California Aquaduct east of Baldy Mesa Road and south of Del Rosa Road in Phelan.
Emergency personnel arrived and pulled a 2005 VW Jetta from the water.
At 8:23 AM 24 year old Tanee Marie Whiting of Phelan, was pronounced deceased.
The CHP investigation revealed that Tanee was the sole occupant of the vehicle traveling southbound Baldy Mesa Road at a high rate of speed.
For an unknown reason, Tanee lost control of her vehicle striking the curb which propelled her vehicle into the air and then into the aquaduct.
The CHP is investigating the collision.
