censorship2Well I know how Fox News Channel feels at times. Often we request interviews from our local politicians and more than often get the cold shoulder. Its almost like they think the best way to make us go away is to ignore us. Well that doesn’t work.

You our readers, number in the 10s of thousands each month, yet some politicians are afraid to deal with us. I guess they are worried how we might portray them.  You’d think they would want to communicate to a wider audience. But no, they relay their stories to the parrot media and hope we just go away. Just like Fox we also Report and let you decide. Seems its worked out well so far.

It seems to have worked out for Fox News too. Despite the White House thugs:

Democratic consultant says he got a warning from White House after appearing on Fox News — latimes.com

Reporting from Washington – At least one Democratic political strategist has gotten a blunt warning from the White House to never appear on Fox News Channel, an outlet that presidential aides have depicted as not so much a news-gathering operation as a political opponent bent on damaging the Obama administration.

fox-news-logoThe Democratic strategist said that shortly after an appearance on Fox, he got a phone call from a White House official telling him not to be a guest on the show again. The call had an intimidating tone, he said.

The message was, “We better not see you on again,” said the strategist, who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to run afoul of the White House. An implicit suggestion, he said, was that “clients might stop using you if you continue.”

White House Communications Director Anita Dunn said that she had checked with colleagues who “deal with TV issues” and that they had not told people to avoid Fox. On the contrary, they had urged people to appear on the network, Dunn wrote in an e-mail.

Yeah sure. You got to give Fox their due, they just keep the pressure up and Obama keeps  making an ass out of himself.

It wasn’t that many years ago we would write a story and I’d have a visit from a city inspector.

It isn’t only the White House that is afraid of alternative media, most all political types seem to be. Its not like we in the Citizen News gathering and blogging business are not used it. Bloggers  in San Bernardino County have had to put up with this for years. I’ve been snubbed by a fair share of the politicians over the years. Instead of a couple of newspapers and a dozen radio stations, the Powers to be now have  scores of citizen bloggers reaching thousands of readers a day and changing the way people get their news. Politicians don’t quite know how to handle us and would rather ignore us. They do at their own political peril.

Most office holders  it seems dislike straightforward interviews. They want to set the rules. They him haw around the questions. We don’t play by any rules. We believe politicians work for us and owe it to us to cut to the chase. Now its not that we skewer every politician, we just ask for straight answer to some pretty simple questions. A fellow that answers with bull feathers gets called on it. When we get snubbed we run with what we got. Sometimes what we got is not so flattering to the politician. Unlike the Lame Stream Media, we try like hell not to be sucked into some song and dance. What we do is hold a politician to account. It used to be the job of the local papers and the other media like radio and TV. No so anymore, way to much ass kissing going on by the MSM. You read us because we try like hell to tell you the truth.

So in a sense we at Cactusthorns in a small way know what it is like to be treated like Fox News.

Thanks to you, our readers, we have become a real political force in at least the Morongo Basin, if not the whole Inland Empire, just like Fox on the National scene.People come to us because they can not believe or trust the Local Media.

Look it blew our minds to when we got the word about or demographics. Who would have thunk? Twice as many people read our stories everyday than our nearest competing blog, that includes the whole Inland Empire. Go figure.

I believe, that along with our loyal readers, its the great citizen reporters that jump in and write the stories that has made us so successful. They make me look good. Its guys like Branson and Fred who give both sides of issues. Its Ken and Mike and Hmm who keep pumping out the stories. Stories and issues that you the readers find interesting.

So even though the Local politicians would like to see us gone and the local media would rejoice at not being fact checked, Cactusthorns, along with other citizen journalists, news gatherers and blog sites are here to stay.
