UPDATE: You talk about a senseless killing…..

On February 16, 2010, at 3:44 p.m., the Victorville Police Department received a report of human remains found in the field area of Tokay east of Cottonwood in the city of Victorville. Deputies responded and confirmed the remains appeared to be human.

Because of the circumstances the Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, was requested to assist in the investigation. Due to the conditions at the scene, processing could not be completed by Crime Scene Specialist or the Coroner’s Division. Victorville Police Department is maintaining the scene until investigators return at sunrise.

Through investigation and interviews, Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators identified the victim as Roy Gonzales, Sr., a 56 year old Transient of Victorville, and learned that the victim was having a dispute with the suspect.

On Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at 9:15 a.m., with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Aviation Division, the suspect, Jeffery Blake 43 also a transient from Victorville was located in the desert area south of Nisqualli Rd. and Balsam Rd. He was taken into custody without incident and booked at West Valley Detention Center for Murder and a Parole Hold. He is being held without bail. Several other transients in the area were arrested for outstanding warrants.


On February 17, 2010, at about 9:00 pm James Miles 44 of Hesperia was contacted at his residence in the 9100 block of C Ave. A search warrant was served and he was later arrested for the murder of Gonzales. Miles was booked into the Victor Valley Jail.
