Earp, CA– On Wednesday December 28, 2011, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Deputies from the Colorado River Station received information that a 15 year old male juvenile was missing in the area of Copper Basin Reservoir. Initial information indicated that the missing subject was motorcycle riding with three other subjects when he became seperated from the rest of the group. He was last seen at approximately 5:00 p.m., in the North West area of the Copper Basin Reservoir. The other parties in the group looked for the missing subject for approximately three hours before notifying the Sheriff’s Department.A Search and Rescue effort was immediately initiated utilizing Deputies from the Colorado River Station, Search and Rescue, Volunteer Forces and Aviation. On Thursday December 29, 2011, at approximately 7:15 a.., the missing person was located at his campsite at the Emerald Cove Camping Resort in Earp, Ca.
The juvenile stated that after becoming seperated from his group, he remained at the same location so that he would not waste fuel or possibly crash while trying to ride in the darkness. Once there was enough daylight, he rode his motorcycle back to camp. He was found to be in good health and had not received any injuries.
The San Bernardino Sheriif’s Department would like to remind visitors to the desert, when off-roading to stay with your group while exploring. Once the sun goes down in the remote desert areas, it is very dark and difficult to see.
