JOSHUA TREE, CA – With new renovations including a larger staging area, more seating, a sound-proof tech booth, and some other enhancements to the interior of its intimate 200-seat Blak Box Theater, the Hi-Desert Cultural Center opens its season with a blockbuster musical concert event. The high energy, award-winning, six-member blues band, Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz, is set to “bring the house down” on September 17, 2011 in a special one-night-only concert where their performance will energize your body and replenish your soul. Internationally renowned for their powerful blues performances led by Sugaray on vocals and Jimmy King on lead guitar and harmonica, the band’s addition of their versions of jazz and rock to the concert mix is sure to make this opening season concert an audience pleaser.
Having received much acclaim in the United States, the band received international accolades and recognition when it took home second place in the International Blues Challenge. When the Boyz opened for Blues legend, Etta James, they received their own standing ovation and were called for an encore. A review of the Boyz by Blues Critic perhaps says it best. “Sugaray possesses one of those powerful, gospel-soaked voices that can take the meekest of songs and improve it. He and his mates start their debut disc, "Trunk Full of Bluez", on the good foot with a ripping 12-bar blues shuffle called "Jelly Roll". Sugaray comes-a wailing' and guitarist Jim King shreds mightily over the racing groove, courtesy of bassist Joe Schiavone and drummer Duane Hathorn. And their show stopping version of Albert King's "Rub My Back"…this track sizzles! Dare I say it even eclipses King's version and this is coming from a serious Albert King admirer!”
A portion of the proceeds will fund scholarships for the Desert Music Foundation programs. The doors (and concessions plus bar) open at 6:00 pm with open seating. The concert begins at 7 pm and will run until 10 pm with an intermission after the band’s first set. Tickets are Early Bird priced at $20 and are available on-line at www.HiDesertCulturalCenter.com or by calling the box office at 760-366-3777. This concert will sell out so purchase your tickets early!
