On January 21, 2010, at approximately 1:20 pm, officers of the “Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement” (SAFE) Team arrested “John Buford Daniel,” 66 years of age for “Annoying or Molesting a Child Under 18.” Daniel, a Palm Desert resident, was arrested after he approached a young female in a local restaurant and repeatedly harassed her and tried to solicit her to go on a date with him. Daniel was later booked into the Indio Jail on the above charges as well as battery. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.
During the course of this and similar ongoing investigations, investigators have gathered information that Daniel has been involved in other incidents with similar circumstances (Battery or Sexual Battery) at various locations around the valley. Additionally, he was also arrested and booked into jail on December 15th, 2009 for a similar incident (Sexual Battery and warrant) but later posted bail and was released.
Given this and the fact that Daniel is a mandated sex registrant under section 290 of the Penal Code, law enforcement officials are asking that anyone having any information on this or similar incidents involving Daniel to contact Investigator Carren Robinson of the SAFE Unit at (760) 836-1737.
The Palm Desert Police would like to remind all citizens to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity, including any vehicles or persons to the Palm Desert Police by calling 911 or by calling our dispatch at (760) 836-3215.
