(ORIGINAL POST: January 2010)-After three years of continuous effort by your dedicated staff it appears that the invasive and unnecessary Staging permit portion of ordinance may be removed. With the rest of the ordinance in place code enforcement will continue to take the lead along with the sheriff to enforce violations of nuisance, disturbing the peace, excessive dust and noise.

Those anti OHV folks that don’t care about your and my property right and privacy are coming unglued. They have launched their counter campaign to attack supervisors Neil Derry and Brad Mitzelfelt who have already stated that the ordinance does enough even without the staging permit and admit that it doesn’t make sense. It is imperative that we show support for the proposed change to eliminate staging permits. You can do this by writing and calling these supervisors and being prepared to attend the Board of Supervisors meeting when it is announced. The meeting will be on a Tuesday at 10:00am, we won’t know for sure until the previous Friday. It’s critical that as many OHV supporters as possible show up to this meeting and fill the appropriate request to speak or be counted form for the specific agenda item, whether or not you intend to speak, this will ensure that you are counted as in favor of the change.

Friend of Giant Rock will keep the website as current as possible, check it from time to time and write those letters.

This is an email that the COW sent to all its friends:

PROTECT OUR DESERT COMMUNITIES FROM LARGE, UNCONTROLLED STAGINGS OF OFF-ROAD VEHICLES

Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt has proposed weakening the San Bernardino County ORV Ordinance 3973 residents worked so hard to pass in 2007 by eliminating the requirement for a staging permit for ten or more vehicles. Mitzelfelt is placing the safety and security of desert communities at risk. The change would allow as many as 199 people with ORVs to gather on parcels as small as 2.5 acres for 6 days in a row in a community near you with no permits required and no oversight.

We must act now to protect our quality of life and precious desert lands!

Call and email Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt

Call and email Supervisor Neil Derry
    (909) 387-4855 • arasmussen@sbcounty.gov

Tell them to keep the ordinance strong and effective and
protect our private property and public lands from ORV abuse.

PETITION TO THE SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

    Protect Our Communities from Large,
    Uncontrolled Stagings of Off-Road Vehicles

Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt has proposed eliminating the requirement for a staging permit for ten or more off-road vehicles (ORV)s. This will weaken the San Bernardino County ORV Ordinance 3973 residents worked so hard to pass in 2007.

The change would allow as many as 199 people with ORVs to gather on parcels as small as 2.5 acres for 6 days in a row with no permits required and no oversight. The staging portion is a deterrent to large, uncontrolled groups of ORVs that cause excessive dust, noise, nuisance and trespass.

We, the undersigned, oppose any attempt to weaken the ordinance and urge our supervisors to protect our private and public lands from ORV abuse.
