Opposition to the medical marijuana dispensary lacks logic and morality

Letter to the Editor, by David Peach, Jan. 6, 2010, Hi-Desert Star- Opposition to the medical marijuana dispensary lacks logic and morality.

The Yucca Valley Opposition to the medical marijuana dispensary lacks logic and moralityTown Council has again postponed final disposition of the only local dispensary pending the assimilation of additional facts. Culling the fabrications and absurdities proffered by opponents is requisite (Emphasis added).

They received the threat of being “written off” by the Inland Valley Drug Free Coalition of Rancho Cucamonga, who carpetbag into distant communities for personal promotion while pretending to possess empty medicine and liquor cabinets. The misnomer is as blatant as the hypocrisy.

Two Hi-Desert Star letter writers claimed to be nurses trained in clairvoyance and X-ray vision as required to imagine the ability to diagnose or dispel physical and mental ailments at public meetings. Fraud is seldom so readily apparent. A third nurse refreshingly dissented.

The only ardent opposition to the dispensary among Yucca Valley officials was voiced by former mayor Frank Luckino, who regards the product and service as unsafe while apparently ignoring the dangerous side effects of prescription drugs and our dozens of cigarette and liquor stores. Planning commission members likewise exhibited bias for vices and nonsense while asserting that there is no suitable location for a medical dispensary in Yucca Valley.

Opposition to the medical marijuana dispensary lacks logic and moralityMedical marijuana is crucial to many local citizens who authentically endure nightmarish maladies. No tangible examples of significant harm to anyone either by the medication or dispensary have been verified.

Other council members remain generally supportive but must reconcile locations and additional dispensaries. Suitable locations and adequate restrictions are certainly available.

Sober rationale and sensible ethics may still prevail.

At least you didn’t say every veteran NEEDS medical marijuana like some would have you believe. I do not know the percentage but this being a military minded area, I’ll bet the numbers are not as high as some would like us all to feel bad for.

I am not for or against medical marijuana. I don’t even care if you do it illegally.

I just do not want my kids thinking that it is this end-all-be-all good thing. Once they are 18 then they can decide what they want.

I know there are many veterans that use this botanical plant for a variety of medical reasons. I have three years of volunteer work with Basin veterans and am myself a (non-combat) veteran. Many are now dead as a result of their medical problems. That harmless botanical plant helped them in many ways.

On the whole, I have no clue what the percentages of vets use this medication or the numbers that may have legal authorization pursuant to Senate Bill SB420.

There are likely (or obviously) many more veterans that prefer to not use it. Still, the Y.V. City Council is ridiculously dragging their feet on the issue and doing a disservice to hundreds (if not thousands) of veterans. Frankie Luckino (“The Sleaze”) is the biggest hypocrite on the City Council to this end in my accurate opinion.

It is better to regulate it, than not regulate it. By regulating it (at least in terms of medicinal use) it sends a positive message to children and teens.

      MY opinions.
