In the state of California, there are requirements of those convicted of certain sex crimes. Convicted Sex Offenders are required to register with law enforcement on a yearly basis or whenever they have an address change or other information changes. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department takes these requirements seriously.
David Lynn Young, a 53 year old Sex Registrant from the Victorville area, has been out of compliance for over a decade. In 1999, he was convicted of Lewd and Lascivious acts on a child under 14 years of age. Bail bondsmen went to Young’s home in Phelan to arrest him for failing to make his court appearance and jumping bail. As they were attempting to take him into custody, Young fled from his residence and has been hiding from law enforcement since.
Deputies Mike New and Greg Winegar of the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station have been instrumental in bringing into compliance nearly 100 percent of the sex registrants in unincorporated areas of the Victor Valley area. In 2005, they started an investigation into Young’s whereabouts and have been actively looking for him. During the course of the investigation, they received information that Young may be hiding in Ogden, Utah with family members.
In the last six weeks Deputies New and Winegar started working closely with the U.S. Marshalls Office in tracking him down. On January 6, 2010, David Lynn Young was located at his girlfriend’s house in Ogden, Utah where U.S. Marshalls and the Davis County Sheriff’s Office arrested him without incident. He will be brought back to San Bernardino County where he will face charges of PC290, failure to register.
This is an ongoing effort by Sheriff’s Department to safeguard the communities in which it serves. Citizen’s are encouraged to contact their local Sheriff’s Station’s or “We-Tip Inc” at 1-800-78-CRIME or WWW.WETIP.COM
