An Appeal to the 29 City Council: Can you give us a week?

Twentynine Palms, CA– Yeah, Yeah, I know the train has left the station. The soup has been made, and the guy is as good as hired, but can you give us a second?

We have always had a pretty independent and rowdy bunch of Council People that have better or worse brought us to what we are as a city today. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

We are hoping that the Council tonight take another look at their choice for City Manager. Postpone the decision for another couple of weeks. Another week. Our reporter in Livingston has new information that might well change the mind of the council.

Give us a chance to flesh this guy out before you commit the city to his tennure as City Manager. Listen to the information we are compiling,  listen to the players on both sides of the Livingston and Coalinga stories.

Council…. You might in the end approve his hiring but it is the right of the People to know everything they can about the man who is about to take the wheel of Twentynine Palms.

I can confidently tell you that there is going to be some very disappointed Councilmen, when this guy puts his management style into play. His idea of a Council is to rubber stamp his management decisions. It will be his vision, not the vision of the council.

Please postpone your decision until the story is published or the information is given to you.

  1. Dan do you think the council can even figure the cost of the new guy? they say a salary of 171 grand, but do they have a clue of the real cost. It is ok to ask staff however like Regan said trust but verify. The current council don’t have the integrity or they would have published the all inclusive cost for the citizen’s scrutiny. Putting out a deceptive figure like a base salary is a fraud and a sham.
I guess Jim and the other old boys on the council can / will always say that is how it is done in other cities.
The 29 voters has elected them to do as others.

If you can, read the staff report for tonight’s meeting on the City web site. Spells the compensation package out pretty clear, if you’re capable of understanding english. No hidden secrets as you claim.

Did you read that he wants a 4-1 vote to terminate him (Most contracts say 3-2 vote is fine) … That is a super majority. That is a little bit of a Agenda that I find distressing.

Didn’t read that but found this in Section 2. Term of Employment and At-will Employment Status = Termination, either for cause or without cause, shall require the vote of not less than three members of the City Council.

Also, I agree with this if he resigns voluntarily= No severance pay.

The Manager may voluntarily resign and thereby terminate this Agreement upon written notice to the City Council and shall give forty-five (45) days prior notice. Manager is not entitled to severance pay as set forth in Section 4 above upon his voluntary resignation. In the case of voluntary resignation, the Manager shall be paid a lump sum for all accrued, but unused administrative leave and vacation time. Unused sick leave shall be paid in accordance with City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations.

I’ll agree to that one too hadenough29.

That 3 from 4 is a change from our first reading.

You don’t realize what a great city manager you are getting. As his neighbor, I know you couldn’t ask for a better family. He did a lot of great things for Livingston. Did you know he is an award winning scoutmaster, and a member of Lion and Rotary Clubs? He showed up at every community event and could be counted on for donations and sponsoring recreation teams.

No we did not…. Thank you. I was hoping that we could get you to do a 10 page report on just how great this guy is.

I do got to tell you we’ve not had a great deal of luck out here over the years with our Scout Masters, if you get my drift. The program could use some good PR.

In a town where middle class is $35K a guy who pulls down $130K+ would be like Donald Trump. I should hope he shared the wealth. I’ll bet that his tithing got him some pretty important positions at the Stake too.
