Twentynine Palms Farmers Market-When? Where?

What is the status of the Herbel Farmers Market coming to Twentynine Palms?

If you have been following the comment section of this blog, you may have heard bits n’ pieces so I thought I would pull everything together with this post and an update from Lori Herbel.

According to an email received from Herbel, she writes,” I am working on the Conditional Use Permit, CUP.  The 29 Palms Community Development staff have been professional and helpful.  This is my third CUP, the first in Yucca Valley, second in Joshua Tree at the County level and now in 29 Palms.  All CUP’s are challenging, but the end result is rewarding for the community and the farmers.

The farmers and I are excited about coming to 29 Palms and we have received vital and overwhelming support.  Jeri Hagman has made available to th farmers market an ADA restroom on her property.  The 29 Palms Water District has agreed to allow parking during market hours.  Sunday’s 10:00 AM 3:00 PM.

The 29 Palms City Council unanimously approved a conceptual street closure for a the Certified Farmers’ Market. The closure includes a section of Homestead Drive extending from the intersection of Adobe Road and Homestead Drive west to a point 340 feet from the intersection.

Thus far the greatest challenges have been finding the best location for the farmers and the community, then securing parking and restroom facilities. All the rest is paper work and working with staff to make sure I have completed all the requirements of the CUP.

I expect to be ready to submit the CUP in a few weeks. It will need to go to the Planning Commission and then back to Council for final approval of the road closure.

I have heard many positive and friendly comments from the people in 29 Palms. A big thank you for all of their support.”
