Kids ages 9 to 14 (age as of 12/31/11) are invited to participate in the first stage of a nationwide youth track and field competition as the Town of Yucca Valley hosts its fifth annual Hershey’s Track & Field Games on Saturday, May 7th at the Yucca Valley High School stadium. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each event will advance to the state finals in San Bernardino on June 4th and have an opportunity to advance to the national competition in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
The Hershey’s Track & Field Games is designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize participation and sportsmanship. Participants can choose to enter two track events and one field event or two field events and one track event. Events include the 50 meter dash, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 1,600 meter run, 4 x 100 meter relay, standing long jump, and the softball throw. Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be presented to event winners; those placing 4th through 8th will be awarded event ribbons.
The Yucca Valley Hershey’s Track & Field Games will be conducted on May 7th by Town of Yucca Valley recreation staff and volunteers. Check-in is at 8:15 a.m. with games starting at 9:00 a.m. Pre-registration is required. Register for this free event online at www.yucca-valley.org or in person at the Yucca Valley Community Center, Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The deadline for event registration is Tuesday, May 3rd.
