An inferno erupted early this morning inside a double-wide mobile home, where a man was able to escape unharmed but his wife died after being trapped inside.

The blaze broke out about 1:35 a.m. The man got out of the couple’s home in the 26000 block of Macon Road and called 911. His wife, who is in her 40s, did not make it out.

“When we got there, the whole place was almost burnt to the ground so there was no opportunity for rescue efforts,” said San Bernardino County Fire spokeswoman Tracey Martinez.

The woman has not been identified.

Cause of the fire has not been determined. Sheriff’s investigators were called to the scene for a death investigation, per standard protocol.
