This will be the directorial debut for Wanless, 20, a student at Copper Mountain College, who has been very active as both a performer and stage technician with Theatre 29 for the past few years.
“Barbecuing Hamlet” is the third show in the Theatre 29 2011 season. The show is a “play within a play” about a small theater trying to put on the Shakespeare classic Hamlet. They hire a director who has her work cut out for her, with a cast of only five she wonders how she will direct the show when the Peaceful Garden Memorial Players require her to present it as a western melodrama! This is a hilarious comedy where anything that can go wrong for a show, does go wrong.
Wanless will be casting 6 men and 7 Women in the show, with the following characters:
Margo Daley: Smart but reluctant director
Sarge Abbott: Handyman with a sarcastic wit
Hope Halliday: Snappy, a little bit rude
Duncan O’Toole: Always has a story to tell
Mary Beth Lumpkin: Mousy secretary
Tamara Logan: council chairman, chic woman
Hal Webster: handsome leading man type
Lamar Bentorries: an erratic, inexperienced man
Zoey Marcus: A no-nonsense type
Opal Bell: A lady with a lot of pent-up energy
Theodora Van Horne: Older theatre type, flamboyant
Budgie Seratt: A young pizza delivery man
Harlen Dortmunger: Fertilizer salesman and critic
In addition to the speaking parts, Wanless is looking for a Costumer, those interested can call (760-367-2876) immediately. She is also looking for back stage hands, two spotlight operators and volunteers interested in building sets and props. People interested in working on the show should come to the auditions and sign up to help.
